New Normal in Dentistry

New Normal at Modern Dental Care

Covid-19 caught us all unprepared & affected our lives forcing us to adapt to “New Normal” in Dentistry.

In times like this, businesses or service providers need to adapt and pivot.

Due to the high risks of contracting the coronavirus, the normal way of working is no longer applicable. Hence, dental care clinics need to adapt to continue serving the community.

Effects on routine work

Dental clinics were made to shut down their establishments temporarily.

At the onset of Covid-19, dental care providers adapted and started providing consultation to their regular clients using Teledentistry.

Now that dental clinics are allowed to resume their services, they need to ensure precautionary & safety measures. These measures are new normal in dentistry.

New Normal In Dentistry

The authorities have announced some precautionary & safety measures for dental care clinics. These measures have become new normal in dentistry.

Here’s a list of few precautionary measures that constitute “NEW NORMAL’ are

  • To schedule an appointment, patients need to undergo a screening interview. The objective of this interview is to find out if you’re experiencing any coronavirus symptoms or exposure. It enables dental clinics to ensure that every patient coming to them is coronavirus free.

  • A patient can’t bring any companion alongside him/her inside the clinic’s premises. The only exceptions apply to children, disabled, and elderly people.

  • Upon entering the clinic, the temperature and oxygen saturation check is mandatory. Patients must disinfect their hands, as well.

  • Wearing a surgical mask is mandatory as well & social distancing rules must be followed.

  • The staff at the dental care office would be wearing a mask as well as PPE during routine dentistry.

  • While treating a patient, the dentist & assistant would be wearing a PPE.

  • During Aerosol Generating Procedures, the staff inside the room must wear full-body PPE to mitigate the risks of the spread of the virus.

  • The surgical tools must be sterilised thoroughly & more often than usual. This involves sterilising the tools of pre-op & post-op. For further safety, the tools can be sterilised during the treatment.

  • After the treatment, the patient needs to update his/her dentist for the next 14 days if they experience any symptoms.

Sophisticated Air Filtration & Decontamination during AGPs

During Aerosol Generating Procedures, the possibility of transmission of virus increases hugely., therefore using efficient air filtration & decontamination, risks of virus transmission can be reduced.

The dental staff at Modern Dental Care will be wearing full-body PPE while performing Aerosol Generating Procedures. The use of full-body PPE has become the most common & new normal in dentistry.

Moreover, to ensure proper ventilation and quick evacuation of air inside the office dental procedure rooms, a high-speed air evacuation system is becoming a new normal.

It is unlikely that dentistry will go back to the ‘old’ normal soon. Therefore, patients will experience those mentioned above new normal in every dentist clinic.
